How do the portable toilet types compare?

Portable toilets differ in five ways: hand washing, flushing, wheelchair access, hookups and space. A standard unit needs nothing but flat ground. A restroom trailer needs level ground, power and a truck route but gives guests real bathrooms. Most setups mix two types.

Porta potty or restroom trailer: which is better for an event?

A restroom trailer is better for weddings, formal parties and older guests because a restroom trailer has flushing toilets, sinks, lights and climate control. Standard porta potties are better for casual parties, rough or sloped sites and tight budgets. Many weddings use a trailer for guests and one standard unit for staff.

Pick porta potties when

  • The site is a field, slope or gravel lot
  • No outlet is within about 100 feet
  • The crowd is casual or the event is short
  • You need units spread across a large site

Pick a restroom trailer when

  • It is a wedding or formal event
  • Guests are older or the event runs 5+ hours
  • You have level ground and a standard outlet
  • The trailer can sit near the reception

Do I need a hand-wash station if units have sanitizer?

You need a hand-wash station whenever food is served, animals are present or workers handle dirt and chemicals. Standard units carry sanitizer, which does not clean visibly dirty hands. Plan 1 two-basin hand-wash station for every 4 units, and at least 1 beside any food line.

FAQ

Comparison questions

Quick answers to the questions renters ask while choosing between unit types. Open a question for the full answer. If yours is not here, call (540) 575-8909 and dispatch answers it on the spot, Monday through Saturday.

QWhich porta potty do I need?

Most job sites and backyard parties need a standard unit. Add a sink or choose a deluxe unit for guests who will want to wash up. Choose an ADA unit for wheelchair users, and a restroom trailer for weddings and formal events.

QDo you have flushable porta potties?

Flushing VIP units and restroom trailers both flush with fresh water from an on-board tank. They need no hookups for short events. A standard unit does not flush but holds about 60 gallons, which covers a typical event.

QDo your porta potties have a sink?

Standard units have a hand-sanitizer dispenser, not a sink. Deluxe units have a built-in fresh-water sink with a foot pump. For events with food, add a stand-alone hand-wash station.

QDo you have restroom trailers?

Restroom trailers with flushing toilets, sinks, mirrors, lights and climate control are available for weddings and formal events. A trailer needs level ground and access to a standard outdoor outlet.

QDo you have handicap-accessible porta potties?

Wheelchair-accessible units are available with a ground-level floor, a wide door, grab bars and room for a 60-inch turning circle. Ask early for weekend events, since ADA units book first.

QDo porta potties have lights?

Standard units have a translucent roof that lets in daylight but no electric light. For night events, add a battery light inside or choose a restroom trailer with built-in lighting.
